Fairmount park
Did you know that you can hike, bike and even horseback ride in the middle of Philadelphia? It’s true. Do all that and more at beautiful Fairmount Park, one of the largest urban green spaces in the country.
FDR PARK
South Philly’s FDR Park is a concrete, skateboard paradise, designed and built by skateboard enthusiasts. In addition to skateboarding, this historic outdoor oasis also features multiple recreational fields and natural lakes. From fishing to golfing, boating to baseball, this park has it all.
Temple Intramural sports
From soccer and softball to kickball and hockey, form a team with roommates or friends and compete against other Temple students in your game of choice. Games are held weekly over the course of a few weeks and a championship tournament concludes the season.
Philadelphia zoo
The first zoo chartered in the United States is still one of its best. Take a field trip away from Owl Country to spend a day with some of the coolest creatures in the animal kingdom.
Schuylkill River trail
Stretching 60 miles long (and growing), the Schuylkill River Trail is one of the most scenic walking and biking routes in the city. Be sure to check out the latest addition – the Schuylkill River Boardwalk – that extends out onto the water between Walnut and South Streets.
Spruce Street Harbor Park
Whether you spend a lazy afternoon lounging in a hammock, a night socializing under the hundreds of LED lights hanging from the trees, or a morning browsing through the punk rock flea market, Spruce Street Harbor Park is one of Philly’s hottest outdoor spots.
Rittenhouse Square
It’s not a stretch to call Rittenhouse Square one of the most beautiful urban outdoor spaces in the United States—after all, it was envisioned and planned by William Penn himself! Steps away from many hot shops and restaurants in Philadelphia, Rittenhouse is the ideal spot to sit back, digest and people-watch after meeting friends for Saturday lunch.
